Waterspout in the Pamlico Sound off Ocracoke Island

Here are a few pictures I took of a waterspout in the Pamlico Sound from the public boat ramp on Ocracoke Island in the afternoon on Tuesday, August 26, 2008. There were actually 3 waterspouts that afternoon but by the time I got my camera from the cottage we only caught this last one. Very cool.

Venus at Sunset in Ocracoke

Just a shot of Venus I took while we were on vacation in Ocracoke Island, NC this past week. This picture was taken Friday, August 29, 2008 during the sunset. Click on the picture for a larger view.

The picture was taken with our old Kodak EasyShare camera that we have been dragging around on vacation for the past several years. Not the best quality pic but a great little camera for family vacations, just point and shoot.

Mercury was also visible through binoculars. Pretty cool seeing three planets in the sky (Mercury and Venus in the West, Jupiter in the East).

I only took my binoculars with us, but I wish I had taken my small telescope. The sky in Ocracoke is very dark and there were several nights that the veiwing was spectacular through binoculars, I bet it would be amazing though even a small scope.
